Radcliffe's Modern Jiko Boei Defensive Combat System (Self Defence)

In 2009 l started my recruitment training with the Northern Territory Police for my employment in the Police Watch House.

During my De-escalation and Defensive Tactics Training my instructors (Matty Thompson and Louie Sayson) asked me what would l do in this situation. I have been training in Kempo and Arnis since 1982, and practicing in weapon disarming in these Martial Arts. Now this was a serious question to a real situation and l had to be honest as in this subject all martial arts are kidding themselves believing their skills are practical in edged weapon self defence. I was not confident in the skills l had been training in as they are more skills for a Hollywood action scene.

So my journey of discovery began a new path, to search for a system of weapon attack defence that faced reality with practical skills with a no bullshit approach. 10 years of searching and in 2019 l discovered videos from Idan Abolnik who is a retired soldier of the Israeli Defence Force and once Krav Maga instructor. Idan Abolnik created a new system of Defensive Combat called KALAH.

KALAH is a practical and realistic approach to self defence which covers hand to hand defensive combat, self defence against edged weapon attacks, closed range gun disarms. The skills taught are trained under pressure to assist with emotional control in the event of an aggressive attack.

In 2021 Idan Abolnik put me in contact with their Australian Instructor Phil Britten. In that September and October Phil Britton came to Darwin and undertook several Kalah Seminars open to the Martial Artist and those others insterested in Self Defence.

I trained one of my students to get him ready to go for the Level 1 KALAH Instructor Program (Kenny Harkin). He passed his exam which also gave me confidence that l was the right track as a KALAH student.

About 5 years ago l also demonstrated the KALAH system to the Corrections training department. Some of the instructors have taken the information on board with their sessions.

I am confident today to say that only KALAH has the correct training for edged weapon attack scenarios.
